Fridays for Future, the movement Greta Thunberg started with her school strikes few years ago in Stockholm, has by now different chapters all over the world, including Italy. In connection with the Pre-COP26 event in Milan where Thunberg and her fellow activist from Uganda, Vanessa Nakate, were guest speakers, the Italian chapter had organized a student march for Friday, October 1st.

The "catchphrase" of the day was 'bla bla bla', with reference to the speech Thunberg delivered during the Youth4Climate event at the Pre-COP26, in which she accused the decision makers of only delivering 'bla bla bla' instead of actual results to fix climate change.

And Nakate represents the continent that, as she often rightly reminds, contributes the least to the climate change — while suffering the consequences the most.

Thousands of people walked through the streets of Milan, crossing also the square in front of Milan Stock Exhange where another movement, Rise Up 4 Climate Justice (not to be mixed up with the Rise Up Movement founded by Nakate in Uganda), had staged a protest on the stairs of the building.

I had the pleasure to spend a morning amidst the stunning artwork of Brera Art Museum in Milan, photographing its director James M. Bradburne and the spaces for The Globe and Mail.

However, this is a bit embarrassing to admit but... I've lived in Milan for 13 years and this was my first visit to the museum (Mr Bradburne was merciful and didn't throw me out). But I'll be happy to go back; I loved the exhibition design. And I really enjoyed the tour around the museum with their communication officer Catia Tommasin telling me special details, backstories and other interesting information — in short, I received art education as we proceeded from a room to another.

I hadn't been on a holiday since 2019; last year, due to the pandemic, I decided to skip the summer holiday altogether. This year, I decided that I needed a break too (and I was lucky to be able to have one) and took the train to Tuscan coast where I had never been — so now I absolutely must spam you with my holiday photos right away, don't I...?

My base was in Piombino, and from there I for example did a day hike to Baratti and back, along the Via dei Cavalleggeri. That section of the coast is part of what is called "Etruscan Coast" that extends from Piombino to Livorno, and Piombino is also the nearest port for traveling to the island of Elba.
